Connect to ActiveSync using a cable or a cradle

You can use a USB cable or serial cable to connect your device to your PC. Always use the cable or cradle provided by your device's manufacturer to connect your device to your desktop computer.

  1. Connect one end of the cable to the serial (COM) port or USB port on your desktop computer.
  2. Connect the other end of the cable to your mobile device. ActiveSync connects automatically to your device.

Important Note   For additional security, disable network bridging on the PC (specifically, bridging to a Remote NDIS adapter) before connecting to the PC to pass though to the Internet or a network. For more information on network bridging, see Windows Help on the PC.

Note   If you are using a serial cable, the COM port you used during installation of ActiveSync must be available (not in use) for ActiveSync to connect to your device. If you have freed the COM port for other uses, on the File menu, click Connection Settings, then click Connect. ActiveSync will free the COM port and connect to your device.
